Maths

At Cowick CE Primary School we believe Maths is a journey, achieved through the Love of learning, exploration, practice and the application of skills over time. At each stage of learning, children should be able to demonstrate a deep, conceptual understanding of the topic and be able to build on this over time.

We want children to make rich connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems. We intend for our pupils to be able to apply their mathematical knowledge to English, science and other subjects.

As our pupils progress, we intend for our pupils to be able to understand the world, have the ability to reason mathematically, to give them  the hope of striving for more, to  have an appreciation of the beauty and power of Maths and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.

Times Tables

During the summer term of Year 4 the children will complete a multiplication tables test set by the Standards and Testing Agency. Children are expected to know their times tables up to 12 X 12. At Cowick our children have access to Times Table Rockstars and IXL as online learning platforms that will help the children learn and practice their tables.
